EXCLUSIVE: FBI Star Missy Peregrym took his first steps in the production of feature films. Peregrym, who is FBI Senior Special Agent Maggie Bell alongside Zeeko Zaki in the hit CBS set Dick Wolf, has opted for the film rights to the Catherine Center Bestseller Things you save in a fire. She will produce it with Jai Khanna’s Oakhurst Entertainment and make it a potential star vehicle for herself.
Published in 2019 by St. Martin’s Press, the book focuses on Cassie Hanwell, a female firefighter who saves lives and finds herself with more than a few fires to put out. One of the few women in her Texas fire station, Hanwell is dedicated to helping others through tragedy. But when her distant and ill mother asks her to give up her whole life and move to Boston, Cassie is suddenly faced with an emergency. Boston’s sturdy old-school firehouse is as different from Cassie’s old job as it could be. Hazing, a lack of funding, and poor facilities mean that firefighters aren’t exactly thrilled to have a “lady” on the crew, except for one infatuated rookie, who doesn’t appear to be sane. ‘worry about Cassie’s presence. But she can’t think about it. She hasn’t forgotten the advice her former captain gave her: never go out with the fire department. Cassie can feel her resolve crumble… and that means risking everything – the one job she’s ever loved, and the hero she’s worked so hard to become.

Peregrym said, “I’ve always been drawn to projects that showcase the depth of pain, the cost of our defenses, and the healing qualities of love. I am honored to have the opportunity to develop this redemptive story into a film, visually expressing what Katherine has so wonderfully constructed in her book.
The author has seen his novel The lost husband made into a Netflix movie last year starring Josh Duhamel and Leslie Bibb. Netflix is working on an adaptation of its novel Happiness for beginners with Ellie Kemper and Luke Grimes. “I’m so thrilled that Missy brings Cassie’s story to the screen. It’s a story about courage of all kinds and the healing power of love – and Missy really understands how these things work in people’s lives, ”she said. “I can’t wait to see it take shape.
Peregrym is filming the third season of FBI, and his credits include Stick It, Rookie Blue, Hero and combine. Peregrym is represented by Paradigm, manager Jai Khanna and Stone, Genow, Smelkinson; The Center is represented by Lucy Stille Literary and Helen Breitwieser of Cornerstone Literary.
