How to play Marauders?
Marauders is an extract-like game, similar to Escape From Tarkov in its first-person PVP and PVE combat, looting, and focus on weapon mods (though less hardcore), but also with piloting and combat of spaceships in the third person.
Each map is an area of space with at least one central area that can be attacked, occupied by AI enemies, and loot there for the taking.
Players have 25 minutes (before their oxygen runs out) to get in, kill and loot whatever they can (including enemy ships), then get out alive with their loot.
Fixed-term contracts can also be made to collect certain items or kill a certain number of targets, for a reward of money or items (or both).
The aim of the game
The main objective of the game is to level up your character by gaining XP (by killing enemies, completing contracts, etc.), unlocking and upgrading your gear along the way, until you get to the max level (35).
At this point, you get permanent buffs for your character that continue until the next clear (when everyone’s gear and level are reset).
You can play solo or create your own team of up to 4 people (you set this up in the main menu, choosing a crew name and password which you give to those you wish to join).
A crew member is designated as a captain, and the crew will always use the ship the captain has equipped in the hangar when starting a mission.
General Guidelines for New Marauders Players
Maintaining ammo supply is important. If you are in a crew this is less of an issue as you can bring ammo for the other members of your party and vice versa depending on what each of you has or does not have.
Especially if you’re all using different weapon loadouts that require different ammo. If you’re flying solo, you might end up with a lot of nice looted weapons, but no ammo for them. Read our Marauders ammo chart and crafting guide for more information.
You can never lose the Rust Bucket, your starter ship, so starting a match in that area and then just picking people up is a valid tactic.though it does become seriously outmatched mid-game by the other ships.
Read our Marauders ship guide for more information on how to pilot ships, their stats, and what you need to craft each type of ship.
Play solo? – How to play Marauders beginners guide
If playing solo, ships are difficult to defend against boarding actions by groups of people (pretty obvious but worth pointing out).
You better try to blow them up as fast as possible if you have a strong ship or just fly around the map in your boarding pod and board enemy ships if you have a weak one.
Enter the map in a Rust Bucket, immediately hide it somewhere then simply navigating your escape pod is a solid tactic. Pods are difficult to shoot down, especially with slower firearms, although it can be done.
Inventory management becomes important quite quickly because space is limited. Consider making small containers (which costs 3x Syneth Scrap, 2x Metal Scrap, and 1x Toolkit to craft once you unlock them).
It becomes very useful when your inventory starts to fill up to store your most valuable items, as these give you more space (a small container takes up 6 inventory slots but you can store 30 item slots in it) .

How to play Marauders? – Tips for beginners
- Explore your default ship to find free items
- Use headphones, the stages in this game are very important and you can hear your enemies from afar
- Aim for head or torso (higher damage)
- Bullet speed is very important, especially in close combat
- Bring healing items like bandages, first kits, health aids, etc.
- You have a reserve on your ship. It is located in the airlock of your ship
How does armor work in Marauders?
Armor can be divided into things you wear on your head (helmets/hats/berets) and things you wear on your body (vests/body armor etc).
When looking at a piece of armor in inventory, you need to know two stats: Armor class (top left) and Sustainability (at the bottom right).
Durability is basically the kit’s health bar (how long it will last before it breaks) while Armor Class determines how much damage you take when attacked.
We don’t know yet how armor penetration works exactly, in terms of ammo caliber used against it and/or weapon power vs armor class (weapon damage – armor class = damage taken maybe?).
Shooting your opponents in the face while shielding your own is always a good tactic, as the armor is generally weaker here and therefore the damage is much higher.
Some vests have special bonuses, for example the Leather jerkin comes with extra inventory slots, which you can consider a trade-off for its lower armor value at the start of the game if you want to maximize your loot space.

What is the best gear in Marauders – Beginner’s Guide?
We’re in the process of putting together a detailed weapons guide for Marauders, as well as a full crafting guide, but in the meantime, here are some top tips:
- Knives are not good (but bring one anyway).
- The full panzer armor is the strongest armor in the game, however, it takes up a lot of inventory space. You will probably want to create a storage crate to store it for more efficient inventory management. Likewise, the STG-44 is one of the best weapons in the game, but it significantly fills your inventory.
- Some weapons, which you think are powerful, are actually less effective in combat. This includes the flamethrower (which is hilarious but not very useful considering its short range). It also includes MG42 (although powerful, the blinding blue disco light effect is quite distracting in combat and should come with an epilepsy warning). Finally, the M1941 Johnson (which is just a waste).
- Other weapons, accessible early on, continue to be great weapons until at least mid-gamethis includes the 1911 Stamp and MP40.
- Some weapons are much better when upgradedthis is particularly the case for BAR once you expand the magazine capacity to 40. Add a suppressor and an improved stock to help reduce recoil, as well as the case with the Mauser M712 once you add an extended loader, store and switch fully automatic.
Marauder Exchange: How does it work?
There are four vendors in total you can trade with between raids: one from each of the game’s three main factions, plus pirates.
Each tends to trade items favored by their faction. Every 15 minutes a seller will leave and another will take their place with new stock.
You can improve your reputation level with each faction by completing contracts for them. This will improve the discount offered by the corresponding provider.
To trade, simply drag and drop between your inventory and the merchant’s to sell gear and vice versa to buy.
