Kill the arrow is a marriage of card game and dungeon exploration roguelike. These two genres are known to be complex and difficult to master, so Kill the arrow can be intimidating when you first start out. The success, however, is extremely satisfying.
Before you start trying to conquer the coil on your own, here are some beginner tips to help you master your first descents.
More is not always better
After each battle, you will have the option to add a card to your deck. Combine that with the many other ways to build your deck, and you’ll be flush with the cards at the end of your run. It’s not always what you want, however. The more cards you have, the less likely you are to draw a specific card at one point.

But consider getting rid of cards that don’t really match your build or cards that you rarely use. As you progress through the game, consider completely skipping a map if nothing catches your eye.

This won’t always work, especially since you are battling enemies who improve their strength while they are fighting you. But whenever you can, prioritize your defense and stay healthy from the start.
Plan your route
This tip may seem obvious, but it’s important to remember: Going through a bunch of question mark rooms can be very good or very bad. Take a look at your route and decide if you want to play and hit question marks, or just go through easy fights to earn some gold.
Likewise, you need to keep an eye out for elite enemy rooms. They can grant you a Guaranteed Relic, but they can also end a Perfect Race. Determine if you have the health you need to survive on it before taking a route, and try to figure out how much health you will need to spend to get there.
Everything is a calculated risk, so think ahead before making a decision that could doom you later.
Relics are usually the best rewards
When given a choice, Relics are usually the best reward you can get. They have effects that can dramatically change your playstyle or save your life. We can’t count the number of times a Double Damage Relic has saved our races.
Stacking Relics will give you a much better chance of success. Get them whenever you can and buy them first in stores before looking at any of the cards.
The key to combining effects
Sometimes the powerful effects of cards or relics can be lost if you have nothing else to associate with them. Consider what you have and how it works with your build.
For example, there are many ways to increase your energy production, such as playing cards in a certain order or simply increasing your energy reserve. These effects are great because they allow you to play more cards in a single turn or cards with higher energy costs.
But energy is useless if you can’t draw enough cards to use them all. Keep this in mind when collecting Cards and Relics. Perhaps you have some energy-focused relics. It’s awesome! But make sure you have cards that let you draw more – or relics that help add cards to your hand.
Play your build
Enter a race of Kill the arrow, you should try to be as flexible as possible. But as you progress you will need to become more rigid and precise. At the beginning, after collecting your first cards and relics, determine what your strengths are and what constructions you want to opt for.
If you’re playing the Fault class and you get a bunch of lightning-focused cards, look for more cards and relics that complement that. The same applies if you are playing the Silent class and encounter a lot of poison cards early on.
Create a construct in your head and chase it. It might not turn out exactly as you hoped, but it should give you a decent edge.
Classes: The Flaw, the Silent and the Ironclad
The Default, Quiet, and Ironclad classes all play very differently in Kill the arrow. Each has their own unique cards and relics. Choosing who you want to race with will impact every decision you make.
You will quickly find out which style of play you prefer in Kill the arrow. Do you want to force the enemies by brute force? The Ironclad is perfect for you. How about preparing long magical combos? Enter the default. Do you like to weave in defense and attack? Discover the silencer.
Always remember which class you are and what your strengths are. If you play the Silent like the Ironclad, you’re going to be in trouble early on.
There is much more to Kill the arrow than these tips, and you will certainly learn important lessons on your own. But failure is part of learning, and there is always something to be gained from loss. But I hope these tips should get you set before you dive in on your own.
