Looks like the kids have been on vacation for five minutes and down and lo and behold, the schools are letting them down again. Sigh.

Keeping them busy – and keeping you sane – will take carefully thought-out tact. But let’s face it: you are on the Gold Coast. That means beaches, shopping, and theme parks on your doorstep that other people would vacation here for. However, what happens when kids crave something a little more diverse to pass the time?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here is a list of some of our favorite things to do on the Gold Coast when school is out.

Next Level Arcade
The Arcade is the epitome of the 80s and 90s. Located on the first floor of the Oasis Shopping Center in Broadbeach, Level Up features 62 of the best games from that era. Featuring Lane Master Bowling, a pool table, 3D pong, limited edition pinball machines, a classic arcade with 40 of your old school games, LA Lakers hoops, a big money hunter, Jurassic Park, down the clown , ring toss and much more. Children exhausted at the end of the day are guaranteed.

Padlock
With 60 minutes on the clock, you and the family are left in a mysterious room to solve puzzles, solve riddles, open locks and escape the madness. It’s a fast-paced hour where you’ll walk out either with big smiles on your faces – or in need of a tall old glass of wine. It’s such a fun time anyway.

Mini golf
What kid doesn’t love a bit of mini golf? None, to our knowledge. Luckily, the Gold Coast is home to a collection of enjoyable putt-putt spots, and they’re dotted all over the city – so you can even make a day of it and visit several – if that’s your kind of thing! Our favorites are King Tutts and Mini Golf at Surfers Paradise and Putt Putt Mermaid Beach.

Go picnic
Relaxation, beautiful views and all the food. It is an almost free activity (you have to buy the food you are afraid of) and by choosing the right place (perhaps near a playground), can fill an entire day. Check out our list of the best places to lay a rug here.

Broadwater Parks
For a real fun time, head to Broadwater Parklands in Southport. There’s a huge range of free activities, including the rockpool water play area, a giant inflatable pillow, barbecue areas, meals and a little train that’s suitable for big kids (you) and little ones alike.

Miami Market
Known as the Gold Coast’s favorite family nightspot for delicious street food, fun cocktails, shopping and live bands, Miami Marketta is so good. Save a few coins and share a few tapas-style plates with the whole family. Oh, and be sure to check out the dessert area as well.
