If you’re looking for the perfect gift for the outdoor enthusiast on your holiday shopping list, or maybe for yourself, the DNR Outdoor Skills Academy can help.

Offering in-depth and expert instruction, equipment and hands-on learning for a range of activities – from fishing to hunting to hunting for wild mushrooms – the 2022 Outdoor Skills Academy courses are now available at the ‘online purchase.

“What to offer the hunter, the fisherman or the nature lover who has everything?” Send them to an Outdoor Skills Academy course! Said Ed Shaw, interpreter at the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center and initiator of the OSA program. “Our classes offer more than just a brief overview of the outdoors – we spend a full day or more teaching the skills to get out there and try them with confidence.”

The 2022 classes include:

A variety of ice fishing lessons, from beginner to advanced.
A fly fishing course for beginners.
Rainbow trout and walleye fishing lessons.
Clinics on the research and identification of wild edible fungi.
Bear, deer and turkey hunting lessons.
A fur trapping clinic.
A virtual class on winter bird feeding.
The cost for most courses is $ 30-45. Many of them will take place at the Carl T. Johnson Center, located inside Mitchell State Park in Cadillac, although a few classes are scheduled in other locations around the state and more may be added to the. calendar throughout the year.
